SYNOPSIS

A huge respect to snake inherits in the eastern philosophy. Several countries have the tradition of snake eating. However, in the eastern philosophy, snake is worshipped. A story from Mahabharata era justifies the importance given to snake in the eastern philosophy. The terror of the extinction of snake because of the Sarpamedha  (Sacrificing snake as an offerings in the fire during ritual work) Yaga by the then king Janmejaya and Aastik sage’s attempt to protect the last snake so that the snake would not extinct from the earth.

Snake is believed to be important from the environmental point of view because it absorbs the poison from the environment and provides the other creatures with hygienic environment.  In Nepalese context, tradition of worshipping snakes on the day of Saun Shukla Panchami prevails specially in the Hindu community. This documentary attempts to inform the audience about the sociological importance of Naga (snake) and the process of worshipping naga.

DIRECTOR’S NOTE

The training and workshops after joining the theater made me develop the habit of looking at any event from a number of Perspectives  That led me to create and  analytical point of view. Till the year 2022, I used to think that Nag Panchami comes every July and it is gone after the Nagas are worshiped. I later came to know That our society contains customs and cultures that the world should know about.

The curiosity ‘why and how we worship snakes which are eaten in some parts of the world’ encouraged me to prepare this documentary. I have made this documentary by selecting one of The houses located at Pokhara Metropolitan City Gandaki Province, Nepal. Especially in the hilly areas of Nepal, snake worship is given the high importance. Other date and time according to Hindu calendar are not given emphasis however Nagpanchami is observed with great faith.
